According to Henley Passport Index 2024, the ranking of US passports is 8th globally. It means that one can enjoy a free visa to 188 destinations. These can be either completely visa on arrival countries or visa free for US citizens.

  • Visa policy: With US passport holders one can enter and stay visa free in the Schengen Area for 90 days within 180 days. 
  • Entry requirements: Citizens require a US passport which should be valid for at least 6 months, sufficient funds and onward/return flight ticket. Some countries might require your proof of accommodation and travel insurance.

United Kingdom

  • Visa policy: Without a visa, one with US passport holders can stay in the United Kingdom for less than 6 months. 
  • Entry requirements: For entry in the United Kingdom, a passport must be valid for the entire duration of your planned stay.

Albania

  • Visa policy: Without applying for a visa, US citizens may stay up to 1 year in Albania.
  • Entry requirements: Passport should be valid for at least three months from arrival date.

Andorra

  • Visa policy: US passport holders stay for less than 90 days without applying for a visa.
  • Entry requirements: A US passport should be valid for 6 months. Andorra can only be entered through Spain and France , upon re entry to the Schengen zone, passport should have 90 days validity after the date if planned departure from the Schengen zone. 

Armenia

  • Visa policy: US passport holders enjoy their stay of 180 days in Armenia within a year. 
  • Entry requirements: Passport should be valid during entry and departure. 

Bosnia and Herzegovina

  • Visa policy: US citizens can stay for up to 3 months without a visa.
  •  
  • Entry requirements: US passport should be valid for 3 months. Please note that,sometimes, you should have a one-way ticket or a ticket with a return date beyond three months from arrival.

Cyprus

  • Visa policy: US passport holders with a visa free can enter and stay in Cyprus for up to 90 days. 
  • Entry requirements: US passport should be valid for at least 6 months, also need proof of funds for the entire stay and return plane ticket. 

Georgia

  • Visa policy: Holding US passports can stay up to or less 365 days at Georgia visa free.
  • Entry requirements: A US passport should be valid at the time of entry into Georgia. 

Ireland

  • Visa policy: US citizens with visa-free for tourism or business can stay in Ireland for up to 90 days.
  • Entry requirements: US passport should be valid for the duration of your stay, a return airline ticket and evidence of sufficient funds during your stay. 

Monaco

  • Visa policy: With a US passport, you can stay in Monaco visa free for 90 days. 
  • Entry requirements: You will need a valid passport, proof of sufficient funds and return plane ticket are required.

Montenegro

  • Visa policy: US passport holders with visa free can enter and stay in Montenegro for 90 days within 180 days. 
  • Entry requirements: Visitors to Montenegro must possess a valid passport and register their accommodations with local municipalities. If you are staying in a hotel or tourist facility, your registration is handled automatically. However,If you are not residing at a hotel, you’ll need to visit the local tourism office to register and pay any applicable tourist taxes. Additionally, if your stay includes different locations, you must register in each municipality where you plan to stay for over 24 hours.
