Study In Malaysia: Requirements for foreign students

To study in Malaysia, foreign students will need to meet academic and administrative requirements. Academically, you’ll need to have good grades in your previous studies. This typically translates to a minimum of 75% for undergraduate programs and a bachelor’s degree for postgraduate programs. Additionally, you’ll need to prove English language proficiency through tests like IELTS or TOEFL.

On the administrative side, you’ll need an acceptance letter from a Malaysian university approved by the Immigration Department. Prepare documents like transcripts, a medical certificate, proof of financial support, and a valid passport.Finally, apply for a student visa, which has a high approval rate and includes an application fee and an optional eVAL service for a smoother process.

English Proficiency: Demonstrate your ability to handle academic English through standardized tests like IELTS or TOEFL. Minimum score requirements vary by university but generally fall within a competitive range.

Master’s & PhD Program:

Previous Degree: You’ll need a completed and recognised Bachelor’s degree (Master’s) or a relevant Master’s degree (PhD) with good grades (often a minimum CGPA of 3.0 or its equivalent)

English Proficiency: Similar to Bachelor’s programs, prove your English language capabilities via IELTS or TOEFL. Score requirements might be higher for postgraduate programs.

Research Proposal (PhD): For PhD applicants, a well-defined research proposal outlining your intended area of study and research goals will be required. This showcases your focus and suitability for the program.

To secure a Malaysian student visa, foreign students will need acceptance from a recognised university, proof of academic qualifications (minimum scores often apply), evidence of English language proficiency through IELTS or TOEFL, a clean bill of health from a pre-arrival medical check, and financial resources to support themselves during their studies. Don’t forget a valid passport and the student visa application fees!
